THE PREVIEW at THE LEDGES

May 16, 2008

This year’s Preview at The Ledges may very well be a preview of what’s to come for the 2008 UJGA season.
Despite being early in the year, participants in the first invitational tournament of the season were in fine form with one-third of the boys within two strokes of the champion and half of the girl participants within three strokes of the winner. The tournament at The Ledges in St. George featured the best golfers from the previous year in the older boys and girls divisions.
The Preview produced the first sudden death playoff of the year when Layton’s Brandon Kida faced Cottonwood Heights’ Stephen Lin for the ultimate prize -- first place. The playoff went one hole and gave Kida his first win as a Johnny Miller Division participant.
The girls division also produced a close contest with Annika Afoa outscoring her nearest competitor Amanda Snyder by one. Afoa credited her win to her ability to make her short putts.
