11 Earn Optimist International Spots

A pair of brothers led all challengers to claim two of the qualifying spots for the Optimist International Junior Tournament. Jordan Herzog claimed the 16-18 title in the Optimist Qualifier, while his younger brother, Alex, narrowly defeated Charlie Duensing to take first place in the Boys 12-13 Division. The two will join nine others who will compete at the end of July in the Optimist International at one of the PGA National courses in Florida.
Both Herzogs were faced with heavy competition in their respective divisions. While Jordan Herzog won his qualifying spot outright, three others who trailed him by two strokes had to go to sudden death to determine the remaining qualifiers. Those three golfers included Garrett Moss, Colton Ogden and Sam Bell. Moss and Ogden won the last two spots in the play-off.
The Boys 14-15 Division also required a playoff. Devon Purser won the first-place spot, while Cody Wass and Brandon Kida had to battle in a play-off for the second spot. Kida, who has much success this season in UJGA tournaments, fell to Wass.
Other golfers who qualified for the Optimist International and their respective divisions are:
Amanda Snyder and Annika Afoa, both Girls 16-18; Sirene Blair, Girls 14-15; Rhett Rasmussen, Boys 10-11 and Tayln Costello, Girls 12-13.
