QUALIFYING
The UJGA Preview is sponsored by Fairways Magazine. Players qualify to participate based on their performance in UJGA sanctioned tournaments from the previous year and are determined by a players ranking in the UJGA Player Performance Ranking’s (ie: 2010 invitees will be based on 2009 performance).
UJGA Player Performance Ranking Points are awarded at UJGA sanctioned tournaments only. Players must be 17-years of age or younger as of August 1st of the current year to be eligible to participate and must play in the Johnny Miller division, Boys 15-18 First Flight or Belle Fellows division in the current year.
SCORING
The Utah Junior Golf Association will crown champions in the Johnny Miller division, Boys 15-18 First Flight and the Belle Fellows division based on gross score. The tournament yardages will be set to accommodate the abilities of the players with the Belle Fellows division playing a forward tee (approx. 6200 yards), the Boys 15-18 First Flight playing a middle tee (approx. 6700 yards) and the Johnny Miller division playing the back tee (approx. 7000 yards).
NUMBER OF QUALIFIERS
The following number of qualifiers will receive invitations to the event.
- Johnny Miller Division: Invitations will be extended to the top 20 players from the Johnny Miller division from the previous year’s PPR’s.
- Bruce Summerhays Divisions: Invitations will be extended to the top 8 players from the Bruce Summerhays division from the previous year’s PPR’s provided they participate in the Johnny Miller division or Boys 15-18 First Flt the following year.
- Boys 15-18 First Flt: Invitations will be extended to the top 8 players from the Boys 15-18 First Flt from the previous year’s PPR’s provided they are participating in either the Johnny Miller division or the Boys 15-18 First Flt the following year.
- Belle Fellows Division: Invitations will be awarded to the top 8 players from the Belle Fellows division from the previous year’s PPR’s .
- Girls 13-18 Division: Invitations will be awarded to the top 4 players from the Girls 13-18 division from the previous year provided they play in the Belle Fellows division of the current year.
BILL JOHNSON MEMORIAL

QUALIFYING
The Bill Johnson Memorial is sponsored by Menlove Dodge Scion and is named after its founder, Bill Johnson. Players can qualify to participate in the Bill Johnson Memorial by a) Winning a championship in one of the Utah Junior Golf Association / ZIONS BANK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES sanctioned tournaments; b) Member of the Junior Americas, Mary Cave or Eddie Hogan Cup teams; c) Finalist in the Utah State Junior Amateur Match Play Championship or d) by finishing on the UJGA Player Performance Rankings as indicated.

The Utah Junior Golf Association will crown champions in each of the age divisions of the ZIONS BANK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES; this includes the Johnny Miller division, Boys 15-18 First and Second Flights, Bruce Summerhays division, Boys 13-14 First Flight, Mike Reid division, Belle Fellows division and the Girls 13-18 division. The tournament yardage will be set up to accommodate the abilities of the players. The approx. yardage will be:
- Girls 13-18 division will play at approx. 5200 yards.
- Mike Reid division qualifiers will play at approx. 5700 yards
- Belle Fellows division and Boys 13-14 First Flight qualifiers will play at approx. 6200 yards.
- Boys 15-18 Second Flight qualifiers will play at approx. 6500 yards.
- Bruce Summerhays division and Boys 15-18 First Flight qualifiers will play at approx. 6700 yards.
- Johnny Miller division qualifiers will play at approx. 7200 yards.

Players can qualify to participate in the event by a) Winning a championship in one of the Utah Junior Golf Association / SWIRE COCA COLA JUNIOR. SERIES sanctioned tournaments, b) Finalist in the Utah State Jr. Amateur Match Play Championship, or c) Finishing on the UJGA Player Performance Rankings as indicated below.
SCORING
The Utah Junior Golf Association will crown champions in each of the age divisions of the SWIRE COCA COLA JUNIOR. SERIES; this includes the Boys 11-12, 9-10, 7-8 divisions and the Girls 11-12 and 10 & Under divisions. The tournament yardage will be set up to accommodate the abilities of the players with each division format being stroke play.

THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Players will qualify to participate in the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP based on their performance in designated tournaments of the Utah Junior Golf Association’s ZIONS BANK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES. This includes the Johnny Miller division, Boys 15-18 First Flight, Boys 15-18 Second Flight, Bruce Summerhays division, Boys 13-14 First Flight, Mike Reid division, Belle Fellows division and the Girls 13-18 division.
SCORING
The Utah Junior Golf Association will crown champions in each of the age divisions of the ZIONS BAN CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES. The tournament yardage will be set up to accommodate the abilities of the players with each division format being a modified Stableford Scoring.

SWIRE CUP

QUALIFYING
Players will qualify to participate in the SWIRE CUP based on their performance in designated tournaments of the Utah Junior Golf Association’s ZIONS BANK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES and SWIRE COCA-COLA JUNIOR SERIES. Team make-up will include the Johnny Miller division - Boys 15-18 First Flight, Bruce Summerhays division - Boys 13-14 First Flight, Mike Reid division – Boys 11-12 and Belle Fellows division.
Team selection is based on performance in all regular season UJGA sanctioned tournaments during the year (does not include Invitational tournaments) and will be as follows:
- Johnny Miller division / Top 6
- Boys 15-18 First Flight / Top 2
- Bruce Summerhays division / Top 6
- Boys 13-14 First Flight / Top 2
- Mike Reid division / Top 6
- Boys 11-12 (SWIRE Series) / Top 2

SCORING: INDIVIDUAL / TEAM
The SWIRE Cup format is a team event with 8-players from each age division being selected to represent their respective division. The tournament will be handicapped by setting the tees at an adjusted length to accommodate the abilities of the players. Yardage is as follows:
- Boys 15-18 division team / 7200 Yards
- Boys 13-14 division team / 6700 Yards
- Boys 11-12 division team / 5700 Yards
- Girls 13-18 division team / 6200 Yards
The event format is a four-division team competition with each division competing against one another. Each member of the TEAM (total of 8-players) will score his/her own golf ball for the designated 18-holes. The TEAM total-score is determined by adding the four-lowest TEAM scores on each hole to arrive at a hole score for each of the 18-holes. Low TEAM total wins the SWIRE Cup.
AWARDS
The Utah Junior Golf Association will recognize the award winners at the associations Annual Awards Banquet. Awards will be presented to each member of the winning team. An Individual Champion Award will be awarded to the low individual score for the competition.
PLAYER PERFORMANCE RANKING Points
All players who participate will receive 50 Qualifing points and are eligible for “Performance” points based on their play (schedule B).
ZIONS BANK CHALLENGE CUP MATCHES

QUALIFYING
Players in the Johnny Miller division and Boys 15-18 First Flight will qualify to participate in the ZIONS BANK CHALLENGE CUP MATCHES based on their performance in designated tournaments of the Utah Junior Golf Association’s ZIONS BANK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES.
Players will be selected and assigned to teams that will represent Utah’s Northern and Southern geographical regions. Selection will be based on performance in all regular season UJGA sanctioned tournaments during the year (does not include Invitational tournaments) with 10-Johnny Miller division and 4-Boys 15-18 First Flight players from each region being selected for a total of 28 players.
The UJGA Executive Committee will establish the dividing line to determine each team. This will be modified each year and will be determined for the purpose of creating two equal teams.
SCORING
This is a Ryder Cup Match Play event with teams earning points based on their play in the Day 1 & 2 formats. The event is played over UEA weekend and will follow the following schedule:
- PRACTICE ROUNDS / Thursday
- DAY 1:Eight 9-Hole matches of Four-Ball / Friday (Morning)
- DAY 1: Eight 9-Hole matches of Foursomes / Friday(Afternoon)
- DAY 2: Sixteen 18-Hole singles matches / Saturday (Morning)
One point will be awarded in each match for each hole won with an additional point being awarded for low gross score for the stipulated round of the match. If a match is halved (tie for total gross score) each team will receive a half of point. A total of 72-points are available for the Four-Ball matches; 72-points for the Foursomes matches; and a total of 342 points are available for the singles matches. The first team to score 243.5 points will be declared the winner.
AWARDS
The Utah Junior Golf Association will recognize the award winners following second day play. Awards will be presented to each member of the winning team and the winning team will be recognized on the ZIONS BANK CHALLENGE CUP perpetual trophy.
